About Me

Welcome to my figure skating blog, my name is Gina and I just recently started ice skating. When I was young and the Olympics were on I was glued to the TV during the figure skating and gymnastics competitions. I loved both sports and followed the competitors closely. I dreamt of becoming a figure skater or gymnast. I thought that age was a huge factor in both sports, after all the girls who competed were teenagers!

Just two months ago during my winter break I decided that I wanted to go to open free skate, I had only stepped on the ice two times prior over the years in group outings. I wasn’t very good  nor did I think much of it, but after purchasing my own used skates - just for the heck of it- a year ago, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. Well, it could hurt….but I tried anyways.

I ended up at the rink every morning of my winter break and began to fall in love with the sport. I never thought I could pursue it as an adult, but after meeting other adult skaters at the rink and reading other adult ice skating blogs, I decided to go for it by signing up for a learn to skate class.

Off the ice I am a teacher by day and a loving dog owner. I have very supportive family and friends whom I adore spending my time with. When I am not at work or skating, I often find myself reading a book or hitting the gym. I also enjoy going to the movies, playing basketball and tennis, fashion design, playing cello, listening to music, and cooking.

I don’t exactly know how far I want to go with my skating endeavors. For now I am enjoying the experience. It is definitely nice to read about other adult skaters who are much older than me that have competed and tested for adult skating medals. I think this may be a possibility in the future, but like I said, for now I am enjoying the ride.

Thanks for stopping by!
